Public Transport in Prague 7 - update 1.10.09


The area of Prague 7 is integrated to the system of public transport in the capital. The transport within Prague 7 is based on the trams and the underground (U) (in Prague called „Metro“), while the buses are used more to connect  Prague 7 to to the city suburbs.

The TRAM lines passing through  Prague 7:


Since February 1st 2009, the trams  (numbers 1 and 8) in the stretch Sparta- Prašný most and Chotkovy sady- Špejchar have been diverted. The substitute service will be provided by the buses X1 (daytime) and X56 (night). The exclusion is supposed to end in the 3rd quarter of 2009 (depending on the running construction works on the Blanka tunnel).    

The changes of the trams´routes :

tram 1   the line is diverted in the section  Vozovna Střešovice(Prague 6)  - Strossmayerovo náměstí
tram 26  is diverted from Strossmayer square to Špejchar  where it will be terminated
tram 25  its route begins at the stop Špejchar(tram loop)
tram 15  its route begins at the stop Špejchar (tram loop)

Line 1 – The line 1 starts in Petřiny in Prague 6, goes via the station Hradčanská (U A), enters the Prague 7 by the Toyota Arena (station Sparta) then continues to Strossmayer square, then Vltavská (U C), the tram then passes by the Holešovice market place and goes further to the lower Holešovice. The tram  leaves Prague 7 on the Libeň bridge and then passengers can change to the underground at the station Palmovka (U B). The tram terminates its ride at the station Spojovací. 
Line 3- The tram line number 3 is the longest line in Prague with the length more than 40 kilometers. If you are lucky you can get on the newest Porsche-designed tram on this line. The tram starts in Hloubětín in Prague 8, goes via the station Sazka Arena (the popular venue for sport and cultural events in Prague 8) and Palmovka and over the Libeň bridge to Prague 7. The tram then goes via lower Holešovice to Vltavská station and continues over the Hlávka´s bridge to the Prague´s centre ( Masaryk´s railway station- U B, Wenceslav square, Charles´square) and further to Braník and the line is terminated in Modřany.
Line 5-  The line 5 is the only one, which actually starts in Prague 7 – near the Royal Deer Park by the exhibition site in Holešovice. The tram then continues to the station Nádraží Holešovice (U C), then Orten´s square and through lower Holešovice to Vltavská and then over the Štefánik´s bridge to Republic square (U B) and Central Railway Station (U C). The line 5 is terminated in Žižkov.
Line 8- This line number 8 starts in Podbaba in Prague 6-Dejvice and proceeds to Letná  and downhill to Strossmayer square. The route of tram 8 then leads to Republic Square (U B), Florenc (U C), Palmovka (U B), Vysočanská (U B) and this line finishes at the stop Nádraží Vysočany.
Line 12- The tram line 12 starts in Palmovka by the underground station of the same name. Then it goes to lower Holešovice through the place called „Maniny“ to Nádraží Holešovice (UC) and then across Strosmayer square to the stop Malostranská (U A) and proceeds to Anděl (the place where the popular shopping mall was built recently). The last part of this line, which was finished in 2003 goes to Barrandov.
Line 14 – The tram14 starts  in Barrandov and it runs via Smíchovské nádraží (U B), Anděl (U B) and Karlovo náměstí (U B) to the centre (Wenceslav square, Jindřišská), then over the Štefánik´s bridge to Prague 7 to the Strossmayer square and to Výstaviště and Nádraží Holešovice. The line 14 ends in Kobylisy.   
Line 15- The line number 15 has got the similar route like tram 1. It starts in Kobylisy and via Palmovka goes to Holešovice. Through Výstaviště and Strossmayer square the route leads to Letná (stops Kamenická, Letenské náměstí and Sparta) and then along Horáková´s street to Břevnov, where the line is finished. 
Line 17- This line leads from Modřany to Ďáblice. The tram goes along the Vltava river via Braník and Podolí to Palackého náměstí (U B – the station´s name Karlovo náměstí) and Staroměstská (U A), then over the bridge to Strossmayer square, Nádraží Holešovice. The tram then continues to Troja and Ládví (U C) and finishes in Ďáblice.   
Line 25 – Another tram going through Prague 7 is tram number 25. Its route begins in Bílá Hora and goes downhill to Letná and Strosmayer square to Vltavská (U C), then turns right and along Holešovická tržnice proceeds to lower Holešovice and to Libeň. The route is terminated in Kobylisy.
Line 26- The last tram operating in the area of Prague 7 is the tram number 26. It leaves the depot in Vokovice in Prague 6 and continues through the stop Dejvická (U A), Hradčanská (U A) to Letná and Strossmayer square. The tram 26 then drives the passengers to Hlavní nádraží (U C)  and via Strašnice to Hostivař.

The UNDERGROUND stations in Prague 7

There are two undeground stations located in Prague 7- Vltavská and Nádraží Holešovice. They lie within the red line C. The construction works on this part of the line C were started in 1978 and the stations were opened in November 1984. The original name of the station Nádraží Holešovice was Fučíkova (according to the communistic writer) and it used to be the final station of the line C until June 2004 when another two stations (Kobylisy and Ládví) were opened. Both stations were destroyed during the castastrophical floods in 2002.
The underground stations in Prague 7 are also integrated to the system of public tranpsort in Prague.  


All these buses depart from the bus stop situated by the underground station Nádraží Holešovice.

102   This bus line starts in Nádraží Holešovice and finishes in Bohnice
112   The number 112 is from Nádraží Holešovice to the ZOO in Troja
201   From Holešovice to the health centre  in Prosek
210   Starts in Holešovice and goes to Čakovice.
